She is one of the Founder members of AIFWL and also the Founder President of Tamil Nadu Federation of Women Lawyers. She is the former President of All India Federation of Women Lawyers and presently Vice President of International Federation of Women Lawyers – FIDA. She, as the President of TNFWL with the cooperation of Office Bearers of her team, had conducted a National Conference at Chennai in the year 2012 wherein the CJI inaugurated the conference. A Regional Conference on Rights of girl child was conducted at Chennai. She was the President of Madras High Court Women Lawyers Association for six years and Secretary for four years. She was the ex-officio Senate Member of Ambedkar Law University
She is a fiery lawyer fighting for the causes of women and takes up the issues affecting women. She has been working for the women’s movements for the past 35 years and has held top positions in various organizations. She has filed number of Public Interest Litigations on issues concerning women and successfully got relief like banning of publishing photographs of rape victims and commercial sex workers, removal of obscene posters of Deepa Mehtha, Director of the film Water, stop playing obscene lyrics in film songs which were already censored. She was Honorary Counsel for TN State Women’s Commission.
She has also chaired the Mahila Lok Adalat and Corporation Tax Lok Adalat as Member and she is the Member of Pension Lok Adalat for nearly 10 years, constituted by the High Court Legal Services Authority. She has been appointed by the Government of Tamil Nadu in consultation with the Hon’ble Chief Justice of High Court of Madras as Non-official Member of Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority. She was the Member of the State Supervisory Board under PCPNDT Act.
She largely practices both civil and criminal side in the High Court besides specializing in family law. She has authored many books pertaining to law and women and also writes articles in various magazines. She regularly writes Articles in various magazines and answers to the legal queries of the readers. She is the author of books such as Pennurumai Sattangal, Ulagamayamakkalum, Neethyayai Thedi and Kelvikku Enna Badhil. The Government of Tamil Nadu has selected Kelvikku Enna Badhil for library purchase order. Kambam Bharathi Tamil Ilakkiya Peravai has given best author award for authoring Neethiyayai Thedi. She has authored two poetry books in Tamil titled ‘Mazhai Naalin Kagitha Kappal’ and ‘Viddahaippu’.
She has given lecture in New York Tamil Sangam and has also presented a paper at the International Conference of Women Lawyers organized by FIDA at Nigeria. She has won many awards including Women of the Year, 2000 by the American Biographical Institute and Best Achievers Award in 2002 by World Peace and Unity Council, Pennurimai Kaavalar by Madras Social Forum, Mega Magalir Award from Mega T.V. and Women of the Year by magazines Aval Vikadan and Mangayar Malar.
